on 8/2/2008 I just happened to come across this site when I search for childrens kung fu videos. Pleasantly surprised to find this series of basic kung fu for kids. A great tool for the kids who are in class and only practice in class. Excellent tool for practice and reinforcement of the basics when not in class. Gabe will certainly be watching and practicing outside of class. Although this is done in a formal class setting, I believe these clips are an excellent way to motivate a child in between the formal class. Great job, Dan and Jerry!

Video Transcript

"Hi! My name is Dan Schmidt from Chinese Martial Arts Center. In this clip we’re going to be discussing Kung Fu for kids and jump inside crescent kick, which looks like this. You start with your feet together and you take two big steps to the left, to the right, jump, and you slap the foot. Let me show you again. So you take two steps, left, right, jump, and kick. Okay, so Bri, start right here, feet together. Ready, go, two steps, jump, kick. Okay, one more time. Okay, go. One, two, jump, kick. The importance of jumping is because in the old days in China what they did in Kung Fu is they practiced kicking people off horseback from the mini battles that they had out on the battlefield. Now, in a modern society, it’s good for building up the strength in the legs and the flexibility. The way that would work in a modern application would be just like as if you were standing still. You can block, smack to the ear, pull the head down and kick to the head this was. Just like that, and there’s many other applications. So let’s say he can kick straight to my leg. So if he kicks low he can jump, kick him right in the head. That’s Kung Fu’s jump inside crescent kick."
