" Hi my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center and for expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to be showing you self defense against the rear bear hug. So anytime somebody comes behind you and just wraps there arms around you really tight okay sometimes it is to the point were you could barely breath the first thing you want to do is you want to step out and push your elbows out. This has to be done at the same time. So in a fast action it would be here here this way. Okay and from here grab the hand okay see now I'm open in this area from here you could elbow straight to the solar flexes which cause him to lean forward. You could smash to the groan and from there you could just grab the other arm, put your hand behind them and you sweep your front leg and they would go flat on there face. So once again when he grabs just step out, elbow, hit the groan, come around, sweep. Lets break down again so he grabs, step out, swing the arms around grab the hand, elbow straight to the solar flexes, use the same fist hit to the groan, and from here just wrap the arm around, put a little bit weight on this leg and sweep straight forward. That is self defense against the rear bear hug."

on 3/24/2009 This is not a very good example. For one, the person bear hugging you would not be lightly hugging you if they wanted to take control. yeah sure it would work in "some" cases, like if the opponent was drunk. but other than that they would be hugging lower so they have shoulder control. to escape what i just said, all you have to do is beat the back side of their fists which will cause more pain to them than you think and they will let go, from there you should have the upper hand...other than that...your example video is useful only against either someone who is weaker than you or if they are heavily under the influence of alcohol or some kind of drug. It would be nice to see the add in the video actually try to bear hug you so i can see what you would do. nice moves, but poor example.
