Series Summary

Facing an attacker in the middle of the night is not the place you want to find yourself. In one of the best case scenarios, you come away with nothing but a loss of pride... cash, jewelry, and credit cards. Yet, unimaginable as it is, someone may try to harm your person or steal your dignity; it happens every day to unsuspecting people.

Self-defense is a blanket term that applies to the many ways people can respond to an attacker. Techniques include taking preventative measures—like traveling in groups; conflict avoidance methods—like running away; and violent responses—like a kick to the groin. All of these techniques are part of a comprehensive self-defense plan. Although the first two steps are usually highly encouraged, as methods for preventing injury and avoiding a dangerous situation altogether, sometimes an aggressive physical response is needed.

In this free self-defense class on video, our expert will demonstrate some Kung Fu self-defense techniques individuals can use without going through formal training. Learn multiple escapes from choke holds, arm and wrist grabs, shirt grabs, and bear hugs. Not only will he train you how to get free from your assailant’s grasp, but also how to control the situation once you have escaped. Don’t go unarmed any longer; learn some of these easy, simple, no nonsense self-defense moves.

" Hi my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center and for expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to be showing you self defense against a wrist grab. First I will demonstrate and then we will break it down. Just grab, kick to the chin, grab to the throat, hit down. So it works is as they grab. Okay don't worry so much about this wrist that is one less arm that you have to worry about. So you could kick to the chin like here or right on the knee depending what is closer and what is easier and straight from there as a divert there attention you claw right on the throat here. You reach back far right at the wind pipe it doesn't matter anywhere. But, use the momentum twist and sweep there leg out and when you sweep you could hook right behind the knee or what you really want to do is try to keep it low like around your Achilles tendon. If you have a heavier person or somewhat stronger they have to go down. Here. Sweep. And that is self defense against the wrist grab. "
