on 8/2/2008 Cool - thanks for the link from Bullshido, Steve. I'm used to hearing your voice on those Sambocast Radio things you did (is there a new episode on the way?), so took a while for me to connect the voice properly to the face. I've not had a chance to see sambo in action before, so it was really interesting to see the difference in approach (though as I'm only a noob in BJJ, may well be that its more common in BJJ than I realise). Never seen that way of doing side control, for example.

Video Transcript

"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Stephen Koepfer at New York Combat SAMBO in New York city, and today I'm going to be demonstrating beginning SAMBO. In this clip, we're going to demonstrate the basic cross body position. Lay down on the floor. This is the basic control position. When you're wrestling with your partner, you want to keep him on his back. There are a couple of things to do. This position you want to control both of his arms and his torso. So you can kneel on his rear arm. Chest to chest controlling his forward arm in between your arms. This is the safest position for me to be able to control his movement beneath me. It's very important that there's no space between us; that we're tight together chest to chest. Once you can establish this level of control and he can't escape, then you would move on to your submission. "
