"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Stephen Koepfer at New York Combat SAMBO in New York city, and today I'm going to be demonstrating beginning SAMBO. SAMBO's fighting philosophy is different than some other martial arts that are very technique oriented. SAMBO tends to be movement oriented so the average student will begin learning how to move, learning how to be comfortable in their bodies, and learning how to approach moving with another human being. The way most SAMBO practitioners teach that I know and having trained in Russia is really more about comfort and movement than individual technique. If the student is able to move properly and comfortably, then the techniques will naturally follow. The beginning stage of every persons training is really to start with basic movements and then later on apply the techniques afterwards. "
