Series Summary

Horses are some of the stateliest beasts on the Earth. Whole cultures have organized themselves around horseback riding, whether for an advantage in battle or to suit their nomadic lifestyle. Early on, we learned that horses could be used for a number of purposes in our world. Horses have carried us into battle, fierce and unflinching; they have pulled our plows and carts and carried our loads; and they’ve been essential in herding and driving our cattle. Without a doubt, horses have proven to be well-suited for human life

All horses need training before they can be ridden safely. Especially in horseback riding, the relationship of trust and instinct between horse and rider must be cultivated over time, and with the proper techniques and equipment. In these free horseback riding lessons on video, learn some advanced level English riding style equitation. Equitation refers to the specific horse tack and riding forms and techniques used.

In this series, our expert will show you a special riding technique - how to post in the saddle without using stirrups. This move can help you advance to the next level in a horseback riding competition. Also learn how to make some difficult gait transitions, including the stop to canter, the extended canter, the extended trot, and the hand gallop to a complete stop.

Video Transcript

" Hi my name Sarah Stetner I'm an expert horse rider on behalf of Expert Village. This is the English equitation advanced and in this video I'm just going to be showing you the extension of all the gates, the trot, the canter, the hand gallop. Also I'm going to be showing you some more extended transition as in the hand gallop to the stop, the trot to the canter, and some more advance transition in my last video in the intermediate one. So and remember to go ahead and squeeze put a lot of weight in your leg, squeeze with your inner tight and you should be advance already in posting as well. So and you want your toes down, or toes up heels down and you want to go ahead and keep this straight line from your ear to your shoulder to your hip down to the back of your heel you want to keep that straight equitation line remember. You want your hands up here at all times. You want light contact on the horses mouth and so now I would start the video. We are going to start with trotting."
