on 1/23/2009 This person is not an expert. Despite his enthusiasm, I would consider him a high beginner level with very little knowledge of the real sport of table tennis as it exists internationally today. He is using very low quality recreational equipment and the net is not even tight! His shot is ok, but he doesn't even use correct terminology. In table tennis we talk about the "smash" but never use the word "slam." This is another hint that this person is no expert and should not be teaching this subject.

"SCOTT BROWDER: To finish up with today, our last lesson for the day is going to be the same slam, but this time off the backhand side. And it's the same type of a thing. You're starting on your left, this time you're starting with your left foot back, you're taking your right foot forward and you're coming low to high and you're finishing towards the net with, like I said before, 80% speed, 20% spin. So it's more of a punch. Think of it as throwing a punch out with your wrist starting with your elbow out and then finishing with your wrist up high so that the ball is going to carry, but it's also going to have some top spin to bring it in to play. And you're also, you're only going to be able to hit that probably when the ball sets up off of the table. As you get more advanced in your play, you'll be able to hit that shot from a lower position. But you want to be able to really get some snap in to it. And it's critical to follow through on this shot. So we'll give it a try. And again, you want to even angle your shot from one side to the other. Once you get to that point, you can hold on to it a little bit longer and get a nice angle on it. Angle, speed, a little bit of top spin should give you the winning point off of a slam from either the forehand or the backhand side."
