"Hi, this is Sean Hobson. What we're talking about right now is how to run an effective motion offense. One of the moves you can use within your motion offense is something called "the screen and roll". Now, this can either be a designed screen and roll, like that they would do if you just call a typical screen and roll, that would be the only thing that happens in the offense or sometimes, the screen and roll can just happen, if you've got nothing else, if the offense is starting to break down, you can set a screen and roll. What we're talking about by a screen and roll is, we usually want our centers to come up and set the screen and roll. And what's going to happen is, when we get our guard in trouble, he's going to start to dribble that direction we want this guy to come over and to set what's called a "ball screen". A ball screen is a screen on the ball. Now, our post player has to be aware that this guy just came over and set a ball screen. He knows that after he sets a ball screen, if he read the defense, he's going to be rolling. So we want our post player to go ahead and clear to the other side because when this guy rolls, he's going to be rolling in this direction. So, what's going to happen is on the pick and roll, is he's going to come across the top, he's going to round out and he's going to turn his shoulders and face the basket. This guy after he sets the screen, he rolls belly to the ball and he looks for the ball. This guy can either pass it, or he can give it to this post player or he can kick it out to the wing. So that's called the screen and roll. Real quickly let's show a screen and pop. If I'm a defender and I don't for the roll, if I'm his defender and I don't read this right and I don't play the role, what he wants to do is he wants to realize that the defender is back and he wants to do what we call "pop" and he wants to just pop back out and they'll kick it back out and we can keep going in the motion. So there's the screen and roll and there's the screen and pop that you can use off of the motion offense."
