"Hi, this is Sean Hobson. What we want to work on right now in this drill is we want to work on the "box out". This is probably one of the drills that gets overlooked the most by coaches. And boxing out is one of the most important things you could do. It will win and lose you most games, if you don't do it properly. So what we're going to do right now is, we're going to do a drill. It's actually--normally we call it a "three-on-three" box out. We usually have three players against three, but we only have four with us today. So we're going to show you how the drill works with a two-on-two setup. You can do it two-on-two, three-on-three, or even four-on-four, whatever you feel like you want to do in your practice. So we're going to start with the black team is going to be our offensive team. And they're going to come up about free-throw line extended. We're usually going to keep our white team, or our defense, down. Because the thing we want from this drill is, we want this guy to go out and make contact with the offensive player. Because when you're teaching box out, don't just turn and box out; because this guy is going to run right past him. So we want Kyle to go out, find Blake, locate him, then seal him, box him out, and then go attack the rim. So this is a game-type situation. I'm going to shoot the ball. When I shoot it up, Kyle's going to yell, "Shot". Zack's going to yell "Shot". They're going to turn, they're going to find their man, they're going to box him out, and then they're going to go and get the ball to tie his point, and box it out. This is called three-on-three box out, two-on-two box out, or four-on-four box out, depending on what you got. All right, here we go. "Shot". All right, let?s do it one more time. I'm such a good shooter, most of the time I make it; but the goal is, you want to try to miss it. All right, here we go. "Shot". Good. So you see right there Kyle got the inside, which is what you want. You want your defense to get the rebound, not the offense, or the defense isn't working hard enough. And you can come up with fun little things for them to do, like maybe run in lines, or doing some push ups if they don't box out properly. But the gist of this drill is we want to teach the box out--very, very important."
