Youth Basketball Forward Skills: Flashing to High Post

"Hi, this Sean Hobson, and right now we're working with our power forward. One thing we want to talk about right now is how to take our power forward and flash them to the high post area. This is a very valuable play within mostly zone offenses, because of the fact when a zone offense is working, a lot of times this area in the high post is usually vacated. There's nobody here defensively. So if we can get a big post player up here in the high post area and feed him the ball, we can work to the wings, we can work down low to the other post players, and it's really open right here. It's pretty easy to get the ball to a post player up here. So we're going to show you what it looks like when we flash to the high post. When we say we want to flash a man to the high post, we're talking about--let's show them, flashing to the high post. We want this guy to come up, we want him up with his hands high, and what he's going to do is he's going to kind of follow the ball. If the ball goes this way, he wants to move to this side of the high post area. As the ball comes back around, he wants to flash to this high post. We don't want our guy to just flash to the high post and stand in one spot. He's got to move, he's got to trace the ball, and then when we get the ball to him, he's got to turn, he's got to face up so that he can look to dump down. And that's called flashing to the high post. "
