"Hi, this is Sean Hobson. When talking about man-to-man defense, one of the most important things you've got to understand in the man-to-man is how to box out your opponent. Now, you're playing defense on an opponent, or you might be off of your opponent a little bit in help side, one of the most important things about boxing out your opponent is being able to read where the ball is coming off. Now, if a guy shoots it from the top of the key, which we're going to show you right here, there are different variances of where the ball is going to come off. You just have to be able to try to read the shot from the wing. If he shoots it, and you see the ball heading to one side or another on the rim, then you've got attack that side of the rim. If you see that the ball is going to come off short want to run to the front of the rim, if you see the ball is going to come off long, you may want to hold back but the thing is, you've got to be able to get in, make contact with your man, box him out, read where the play is coming off and then attack the basketball in the air. So, we're going to show you right now at kind of full speed here, what we want to look for on the wing and on the perimeter of how the ball is coming off to get the rebound. The shot is up, it comes off to the side. You see that he read it, when it came off the rim. He did a good job of holding his man and boxing him out. He stormed to that side of the rim because he knew the ball was coming off and that's how you effectively rebound in the man-to-man defense."
