Summary: Expert advice on how to set picks. Learn how to set a screen after a pass as a forward in youth basketball in this free video basketball lesson from an experienced coach.
"Hi, this is Sean Hobson, and what we're talking about right now is using our forwards to set some screens. And this time, we're going to talk about setting the screen down low. In some of our offenses that we run, we're going to have our forwards come down and set back screens, and let our post players pop up high within the offense. So what we want to talk about right now is how to set the screen on the low post. It's just a little bit different than it is on the wing, but still we've got to make sure that these post players set up the screen. If we know that Kyle is setting the screen, and we want to go to the outside, we're going to take a step down and draw that defense--the defensive player--down before we set the screen. If he knows that he wants to cut underneath, then he's going to take a step to the inside and I'm going to pop to the inside, and then he's going to come up and around. So, we've got to make sure that the post player set up the screen properly. Then, when he's coming to set the screen, again, you always want to show the screen with the fist up, you want to show that you're setting a screen, then when he comes and sets the screen, he wants a good wide base, wants to set himself strong, especially on a post player because the post players will try to fight through those screens. So he's got to set a good screen. This is what it looks like when he sets the screen on the low post player. Go. Good. So he showed him that he was setting the post screen, he comes down, sets a good hard screen, and allows that guy to pop up to the top. And that's how you can use your forwards on screens in the offense. "
