"Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we want to talk about now is when working with our defensive ends one of the most effective moves is called a speed rush. The speed rush is going to keep this offensive player from getting to our defensive end. Our defensive end is going to stay low and the key is speed. He's going to use his feet, come out as quick as he can, he's going to lead with his inside arm, he's going to hammer through and stay low the whole time trying to get to the outside. We don't want him to get so deep in the backfield that he has to banana out around to get to the quarterback. We want him to get around this offensive man as fast as he can and then get into the backfield. One of the most effective people that does this is Dwight Freeney for the Indianapolis Colts. This is his move, the speed rush. We'll show you how he's going to hammer through and go quickly to the outside. This is called the speed rush (video demo). You see he never comes up. He shoots off, he gets that arm through and he goes around just as fast as he possibly can. That's an effective way to use the speed rush."
