"Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village. What we want to talk about now is the proper blocking of our line during the sweep or the pitch play to the outside. This time we'll be pulling our guard, so it will change just a little. We still want our tackles to block straight up the field, tackle on tackle. Our tackle will go up and hit the first man he sees. (Video demo) This guard will go up and get the linebacker. This tackle will go straight up. This guard we will pull out. When this guard pulls, he's going to go straight down the line. We're not really concerned with the backside of the play because they'll have to come all the way through to pursue it from the back. By that time we hope the backfield is already going up the field. So, we're not so concerned about the backside. Partly, this tackle will shed the tackle and he'll try to go help out on the linebacker. This guard will pull down and hit the first man he sees which is probably going to be either a defensive end or a corner back coming through. That's the way you block with the line using the pulling guard."
