"Hi, this is Sean Hobson, and right now we're working with our shooting guard on how to get open. And we really want to concentrate especially this time on getting open off the screen. After all, that's typically what we're going to use in our offenses. There are three different ways that we can get this shooting guard open off of a screen. The first way is just the straight screen, which means that he's going to come down, he's going to set a good screen. He wants to walk his guy down; he wants to let this guy set the screen. One key is we never want our shooter to leave too early that this guy can't set a screen, because once he starts leaving, so is his defender. And if his defender can get going before the screen is set, then he's not going to get open for the shot. So the first thing is--go ahead and come back down--is off the straight screen, he wants to walk him down, let the screen be set, and then pop this guy in. Now, there's a second type of screen that we want to show you, and that is when he comes down to set the screen--go ahead and come down at set the screen--if the defender--go ahead over the screen--if the defender is tagging along on his back side, and he can feel that--that the defender is coming around the screen, we want this guy to use what's called a curl screen. And that's when he's going to curl back around and then he's going to keep that defender on the back side. Now we can pass the ball to him on the inside and get a shot there. The last screen we want to show you is called the flare screen. If I know that this guy is a shooter and he's been using screens a lot, what I'm going to do as a defender is usually cheat. So, what I'm going to do right now is, as I see the screen coming down, I want to kind of cheat right here. This guy is going to recognize that, and he's going to set a back screen on me, called a flare screen. In this case, our offensive player's going to come touch his back and pop straight back, and that's going to cause me as a defender to have to fight through this screen this way, which is going to keep our shooter open from that angle. So, there are three types of screen you can use. The regular screen, you can use the flare screen, which we just used, or you can use a curl screen in order to get yourself open for the shot."
