Video Transcript

" Your sailing experience is about a lot of things: your hardware, the people you sail with. But mostly it is about the weather. If you can learn to tune into the weather, well, with the equipment like your weathervane, or the tail-tails on your sails, you are going to be ahead of the game. But if you can extend what you are looking at beyond the boat, you will be even a better sailor. When we race we are always looking for hints and indication of weather to come, like our competitors that can suddenly heel over in a big gust of wind, that might drive them away from the mark or lift them towards the mark. You are going to be looking for these things. What hits the guy in front of you is going to hit you in a matter of seconds. Often if you are looking out on the horizon, you will see tell-tale signs like flags or boats that are moored that will suddenly swing to a different location. That is an indicator to you that you had better keep your head up. "
