" Rig tuning is essential for an efficient sailboat. This particular boat has two shroud lines, a lower and an upper. If you don't have these guys tuned just right, then you are going to get fall off on one side, and you may not get the same fall off on the other side, when you change tacks. The loose gauge is a handy way to do this, but it does take some time. You want to take your boom off the mast; you are going to be siding up the mast to make sure you have it perfectly aligned. The shroud will be very, very loose at that point. And then gradually you bring them up to the correct tension, first working on the uppers and then coming back in and working on the lowers. You can usually find the correct gauge number for you rig tension on a website for your boats. Some of the local and national fleets will post this thing for you."
