"Hi, this is Ryan Tapp on behalf of Expert Village and this is advance shots with a basketball. We are going to talk about the finger roll. The finger roll it could be used in a layup in fact it is mostly used closer to the hoop when you are a little bit closer. You have a little bit more control on the ball. Basically a finger roll in essence is just really a scoop. You are kind of scooping the ball towards the hoop and then you are letting it roll of your fingertips to give it that back spin. The same way as when you would shoot the ball. Now when you are shooting a basic shot or a jump shot your palm starts out facing the rim, facing the basketball hoop. But when you are doing a finger roll your palm is going to be facing your or behind you. Most people use the finger roll when they are unable to get a shot any other way. If there is a lot of traffic and there is a lot of guys, if they are able to jump and present the ball to get it in front of the opponent so he can't block it and still use that follow through and that back spin by rolling it off the tips of your fingers. You can still take a pretty accurate shot."
