on 8/29/2008 This has to be a joke, right?

A hand is 4 INCHES ... not the spread of your palm!!!

Where did you FIND this "expert" ... you're going to get sued if you use amateurs like this!

on 7/28/2008 Use a measuring tape or a purpose-made stick. This is the most ridiculous way to measure a horse I've ever seen.

Video Transcript

" Hi my name is Sarah Stetner and this is my horse Rowdy. I'm an expert horse rider and I'm doing a video on behalf of Expert Village. I'm just going to give you a quick tip on how to measure a horse. Horses are measured in hands for those of you who don't know that. This is 15 three hands, and a 17 hand horse is really tall. So I will show you how. You would start right here on his front foot, his shoulder, whithers, you will get him to stand square first off, there now it is kind of underneath him. I'm going to measure like this, this is about 2 hands, it is not going to be exact. If you want exact measurements, there is yard sticks, so you could use that. But just for roughly, so here is 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12, my hands are really big too but, you would measure up to the withers. So it is going to be 12 hands like that. It is about 15 three hands exactly, so it is kind of a rough estimate, but this is how you measure. Just like that, alright."
