Video Transcript

" Hi! My name is Sarah Stetner. I'm an expert horse rider on behalf of Expert Village. In this video, I am just showing you the basic steps of beginner of riding English and I just went ahead and explained how your legs should be in the previous segment. So now I am just going to continue on explaining how equitation should be. So the horse is all warmed up, you want your posture up, shoulders back, face forward, I am going to be looking at the camera a lot during the video, so my head is not going to be totally straight the whole time because I am explaining stuff. You want a straight line from your ear to your shoulder to your elbow to hip to the back of your heel. You want to keep that straight imaginary line. You want your elbows to be in English. This is the correct way to hold the reins. You do pinkies. Put your pinkies on both side of the reign like this. Put the reign in between your pinkie and your ring fingers on both hands. Then you just grab between the thumb; your reign goes in between the thumb as well, so you just close your wrist. You don't want your wrist too tight. You just want to relax and have a loose, nice relaxed grip. You want to bend your elbows as you can see. I'm going to go ahead and turn him to the side, so you want to go ahead and bend your elbows a little bit but not have your wrist be like this to where they are up. You want them down. You want nice contact on his mouth because you will be adjusting with his head and remember to keep the weight in your legs as well and heels down. You want weight in your legs. You are going to be posting like this. This is just the basic steps of English Equitation and how you should be. "
