Trotting Over Poles: Free Horseback Riding Lessons

" Hi my name is Sarah Stetner I'm an expert horse rider on behalf of Expert Village. On this segment I'm just going to show you a little fun thing it is going to be trotting over these poles right here or this pole right here. So you want to make sure that your poles are evenly spaced and when I go over a pole you do use this in trail classes. So when I go over a pole I just kind of extend a little bit right before I get to the pole and go ahead and pick up his head so he knows to pick up the back of his feet. So I'm going to go ahead and come over here around this way to this pole right here. More advance you can go over three but right now I'm just showing you one. You see how he hopped up and jumped up with his back feet now we are going to come back the other way. You do want to give your horse a little bit of a loose rein so he can see the pole that he is going over. That was very bad so we are going to do it again. That was my fought I didn't have enough contact with his head. It does happen. So now he knows what he is going to be doing and you see me leaning up because that is what you want to do. You want to lean up when you go over these poles. So I do it one more time it is good practice for your horse especially to be in trail classes. That was good. So that is how you go over the poles."
