"Hello, my name is Ronald Gotlin, Biscayen Park Aikido School, Biscayne Park, Florida. This technique is called Kata Otoshi. Kata is the Japanese word for shoulder and Otoshi means to drop. As James attacks, what is going to happen is slow motion, get off the line and I am going to push on his shoulder to break his balance and for him to recover he will do a nice easy rolling fall. It looks like so. And again, one more time from this direction, you will notice as James attacks, my first move is going to be getting out of the way. I get out of the way, I push and James does a nice easy fall. The basic premise in Aikido is getting out of the way and in fact if James attacked and I did nothing more than this, I would prefer the same tasks. I would be getting out of his way out or arms way. That is what we are looking for basically in our form of Aikido. Again off the line, block, push and let him catch his fall. Thank you. We will be right back."
