"Hi, my name is Rick Van Hoorn and I'm here to talk about mountain biking for Expert Village. Now we're here to talk about the helmet and we're going to go ahead and talk about the parts of a helmet and then I'm going to show you how to put the helmet on correctly. First of all a lot of mountain biker helmets have a removable visor. Very simple to put it on and off, the visor makes it really nice on those long hot days where you're riding in the expose sunlight. All cycling helmets sold today are going to have some kind of retention system on for the back of the head where it actually kinds of holds it on the back of a head as well. This one in particular has a retention system where it ratchets back and forth by pushing little buttons right here. Push them in the open and you just close them that way by just pushing the thing close. This is the last thing that I do when I put my helmet on I go ahead and tighten this onto the back of my head. Other bicycle parts I'm going to show you about the inside of the helmet right now. It has remove foam pad in there as well, it's good to take these out every so often maybe after every 3 or 4 rides and just rinse them out so they don't become real stinky. Another very important part of the helmet is the strap system itself. You look at these little buckles, there's one on each strap. These buckles are suppose to fit right underneath your ears when the helmet is buckled and these fit right underneath your ears and that's what actually keeps the helmet on top of your head. Now I'm going to go ahead and show you how to put the helmet on properly. Like I said I open these up in the back, the retention system, put the helmet on like this, I buckle it. I always like to take my sunglasses off and put them over the straps and then the last thing I do is I close the retention system around the back of my head. That keeps the helmet on real solidly on my head, if I fall off it's not going to pull off my head after the first impact."
