Series Summary

The first Weightlifting World Championship occurred in London on March 28th , 1891 but weightlifting traces back in history to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians where we find weightlifting used to judge human strength. In the Twenty-First Century weightlifting is as popular as ever, with many events in the Olympics, thousands of gyms all across the world and a Gold's Gym on almost every street corner. Weightlifting exercises are great for losing weight and building muscle as well as maintaining a healthy heart and veins. There are many exercises for nearly every muscle you can name and a correct and an incorrect way to workout those muscles. One specific muscle that is important to strengthen is the triceps brachii muscle that extends just below the shoulder to just above the elbow and opposes the biceps on the other side.

In this free online video series learn from expert personal trainer and fitness coordinator Ricketta Butler as she demonstrates tricep exercises to strengthen the triceps brachii. Learn exercises with dumbbells such as the dumbbell triceps extensions; learn how to do the hammer strength seated dip and standing triceps dip, pilates pushups, triceps press back, and the standing triceps press.

Video Transcript

"Hi! My name is Ricki Butler and I’m a fitness professional. I’m a personal trainer, a group exercise instructor, and a group exercise coordinator. I have been in the fitness industry for the past 10 ½ years. I am certified as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and Pilates instructor. I also have a degree in heath science education from the University of Florida. On behalf of expertvillage.com, today I’ll be demonstrating exercises for you that will work the triceps. Your triceps are located in your arm, the back of your arm, right behind your biceps. There are 3 muscles located in the tricep area, and sometimes these muscles can be just a little bit difficult to tone so I’m going to demonstrate a variety of different exercises. Some of them using your own bodyweight; some of them using machines, free weights, and dumbbells. We’re going to go ahead and get started; we’re going to start off using machines today. "
