"I'm Ritchie Greer with Expert Village. The fade away. The fade away was made famous by a player called Michael Jordan. You might have heard of him. The reason we use the fade away is to create space. As your defender is here. When you go up for your shot, he has a very good chance of blocking it, unless you, once again, create space. By doing so, if I go up to the defender and I do the jump shot, and I fade backwards from it, it gives me an area to take the ball and shoot it over his stretched hands, and it gives me a better chance of making the basket. Fade away is a big advantage, especially for small players. So small players, when you go up for that jump shot, there's a tall person in front of you, you need to fade back."
