"BEN GRAHAM: Last but not the least, the 10th man, the fans. People may not necessarily think of fans when you think of the game of baseball and what's important. But of the non-player characters, I think they are absolutely the most important. Fan, obviously, short for fanatic, these people are fanatical about their teams. They love them. I mean, what would the Yankees be without the bleacher bums? What would the Red Sox be without the people who are willing to go out in the middle of October and freeze to death at Fenway Park? The fans' responsibility is to cheer the team, to love the team, to support the team, to follow the players, to know what they're doing, know who they are, to give them that extra bit of support during the game, to help prop them up when they're down, to cheer them on when they're doing well. The fan really can influence a game because sometimes the players really do want to perform well just for the people who are sitting in the stands, the people who are paying their hard-earned money to be out there watching them play the game of baseball. If the fans weren't there, then there would be no baseball. So the fan truly is the 10th man on the field and probably the most important of non-player characters."
