" On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Raymond Temeyer with Lost Island Voyages, and we also have with us Valerie Kevorkian from Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center in Miami Beach. We’re going to talk about snorkeling today and all the opportunities that it provides. Another aspect of safety while you’re snorkeling are signals to you buddy or to people on the beach that you are doing just fine or perhaps that you need assistance. Two accepted methods of saying that you’re okay and that you don’t need anybody to come and help you are one hand on top of your head like this, or both hands joined above your head like this. Either of these will signal to people ashore or people on a boat or your buddy that you’re okay and that you don’t need any assistance. If you are in trouble, a natural thing to do is to wave your arms. If you wave one arm people might just think that you are waving to them and may not come to help you, so it’s a good idea to wave both arms, like this above your head when you’re in trouble and that you need help. This is a signal that people are going to come to you as quickly as they possibly can. Another thing to be concerned about are some of the marine life that you’ll encounter when you’re snorkeling. You can buy little identification cards that will identify dangerous marine animals, corrals, things that you need to concerned about while you’re snorkeling. "
