on 8/2/2008 My Soo Bahk Do instructor is having us work on uppercuts to the ribcage. It's like the opponent is expecting a shot to the midsection, but to the abs, and the punch is an uppercut to the ribs. Since I'm shorter than my opponents usually are (I'm 5'6"), it works for me because I have to infight; I don't know how it works for someone taller.

Video Transcript

"Hello this is Ric O'Kane on behalf of expertvillage.com in this clip I'm going to be demonstrating 1 of the 4 basic punches of Muay Thai. If you want more information on Muay Thai you can visit our website at fightingtrainer.com. Now I'm going to demonstrate the upper cut punches. From your stance here I'm going to shift my weight down okay. The upper cut was used off of bobs off of slipping punches. So bob I'm going to lift with my right knee and my right hip, turn my elbow in, and turn my fist towards my face. Again off of the bob, I'm going to come up with my right fist and uppercut under my opponents chin. For the left side I'm going to bob with my left first and I'm going to lift up with my left hand. Okay side view I'm going to bob and punch, bob and punch. Notice I lift my right heel up to the left I bob left, I lift my heel up first and then I lift straight up with my left leg. Notice I don't lift my left heel up off the ground I'm lifting flat foot. "
