"How are you doing? My name is Qaeem, I’m going to be demonstrating Shorin-Ryu Karate. In Shorin-Ryu Karate, we have blocks and the block that I am going to be demonstrating today is the rising block. The rising block is generally… this is just going to be demonstrating the rising block, the middle block and the low back. We are going to start off from the X block. Now the rising block, you’re going to start in a ready position. You can do this when standing straight up in the ready position. You are going to come here. You are going come in the X form. Now the arm that is going to be blocking is the arm that is in front. It’s going to come up. You want this arm to be over your head. You don’t want it to be directly over your head but you wanted to be above your head. Your fist should be facing up and pointing down slightly. That is a rising block. You don’t want to block with the bone right here; you want to block with the meat part of your arm. You also do not want to block over the top of your head because when someone is attacking they can easily push your hand down at your head. You want to come out. Now once again, just starting from the X position in the arm that is going to be blocking is the arm that is in front, just like when you are rotating. Right now, I am going to be blocking with my right arm. You are going to block, you are going to come up The same thing when you are changing hand. Your left arm is going to come up. Right arm is going to come down. Your left arm is going to the front, and that’s going to come up, same thing. You can see a circular motion. In karate, you have circular motion. Generally, those are the way the movements are performed, rising block. You should always start on the X block. You don’t want to block with the arm that is in the back because that way if someone pushes your arm in you can’t move it. It gets stuck so you are going to block with the one in front. That is the rising block. On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Qaeem, thank you for watching."
