" On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Ralph Reyes. I'm the Dojo-cho and the aikido instructor at Chi Martial Arts in Miami Shores, Florida. Today we are going to learn beginner's techniques in aikido. Okay now we are going to cover an exercise that is called taino tenkan. And what this exercise does, it will give us practice on both entering, which we covered as irimi, tenkan, which we did in moving towards the back, and it also covers redirecting the power of the opponent. So we are going to start in gaiku hanmi, which means same foot out. One person grabs the other person on the wrist, and now what he is going to do, he is going to first irimi. His foot is parallel to that of the attacker, and he is going to redirect his power by just moving in a circle and with tenkan. Okay we are going to cover that again. He is being held by the hand, the power is coming straight to him, and you are going to bypass it by entering and then turning, which is called tenkan. In real time it looks like this."
