" Hi welcome to Expert Village I am Nicholas Daniel. Carving is a fairly popular move it basically involves the body moving in a circular motion like a donut. It is generally used to fly by or around another person or object. It is combined with basically a side ways movement and forward and backwards movement depending if you are in and out facing. Generally it is this movement right here that you are looking for and you can do this in all four neutral positions: belly, flat, sit, and head down. The way to get into this carve is fairly easy. You want to start of by just practicing side slides. Those are extremely important so just moving back and forth. Once you are comfortable with side sliding you want to go ahead and choose a direction that you are comfortable with go ahead and continue side sliding in one direction and just slowly initiate a turn. What this would do it will start arching around and the more of a turn that you initiate the smaller the circle is going to get. Generally when you make the circle smaller it has the tendency to pick up speed as well. So people have the tendency to become inverted. For a carve it does not have to be vertical. You can be in a back carve or a belly carve and still fairly flat if you will. It does not have to be all the way inverted. Generally what we are looking at is this right here. The lowest point should be fairly a small circle with the top portion of the body making a much larger circle. So lets say you are sit carving right now your feet should just barely be moving a little bit, with your head moving around with your feet. Vise versa with your head on the bottom your feet should be trailing behind.
