"I'm Sharol Pestotnik with Colorado Fencing Academy. I'm Nickolay Logatchav, coach of Colorado Fencing Academy. On behalf of Expert Village we're here to discuss the rules of Sabre Fencing. Sabre Fencing has rules about footwork. To begin with, a fencer will go to the strip, get on the en garde line, and assume the en garde position. This is where their knees are bent and their point is up. The referee will call fencing as soon as the fencer assumes this position. The fencer will move up and down the strip in a linear fashion, taking several steps forward, several steps back. As you see, these are small steps. A fencer can lunge. A fencer cannot crossover; this is where their back foot will cross in front of their front foot. This is against the rules."
