"So if you have just ridden your bike and it has got a bunch of dirt and grime if it has been on your car rack, if you have done a ride with some rain, some puddles or mud, the first thing you should do if you are cleaning it off is remove the wheels and address kind of the harder to reach places. If there is any one thing you probably should not do while you are cleaning it is to avoid a high pressure hose that would be really the way to go because you won't get any moisture in your sealed bearing mechanisms. So a good way to do it is if you do some warm soapy water and a sponge or a brush, you can get into kind of those hard to reach areas and you will actually end up cleaning the bike a lot more thoroughly and it will ensure that your bearings are safe but clean. Clean off your contact points where your rim is contacting the break and use a good degreaser to clean off your chain, put a new lube on there and start all over. You can do anything to the bike but avoid the high pressure hose so that your bearings don't get any moisture in there and so that the grease is still in there and clean."
