Video Transcript

I'm Randy Victory, and I'm here to talk about road cycling techniques. The greatest rider of the 20th century, Eddie Merckx, had really good training advice. Ride lots. And that's probably the best thing you can do. What I try to do is ride every single day. Replace short trips in your car with riding your bicycle. Especially in the winter time, it's difficult to squeeze enough time in to train, so make sure you get lights for your bike so you can train in the evening and early morning hours. It's also been said that the hills are the crucible of all great riders. If you can find hills to climb, hill climbing will definitely help you out. And you'll find that's--in a race--that's where your most dropping other riders, is on the climbs. In fact, downhills are usually measured in seconds or fractions of a second, climbs are often measured in minutes, so you can really gain time in the climbs. And train as many hills as you possibly can.
