So say you did have to end up stopping in the middle of a hard strenuous climb because you, you know, spun out and lost traction or you just got too tired to keep going. How do you restart? First thing you do, is check to make sure that you're in a place that has a pretty good exit from it so you don't have to go over any obstacles immediately before you're in your pedals, you've got your balance and all that good stuff. So that's the first thing. You look for a clear place to go when you start. Then make sure that your back wheel isn't stuck in a rut or anyhting like that. Because you're not going to go anywhere if you're stuck in a rut. Third thing you want to do, want to make sure you're in an approriate gear. When I stopped on this hill, I was in too hard of a gear to keep going. So what I need to do is I need to shift down to an easier gear. Shift up, make sure I'm shifting it into gear. Then, back wheel is in a pretty clear place. Got my back brake locked so that I don't roll backwards. Get into one of my pedals. Arrange myself up the trail, I see a good way to go right here. So then the thing is you sort of have get up on your tippy toes, you want to get the front of your weight right on the nose on the saddle. It's kind of uncomfortable, I wouldn't want to ride all day like this, but for this application it's what you need to really force the tire into the ground since you can't really be using a lot of upper body angles and stuff like that because you're not moving, so you don't have the same sort of momentum. And then, it's sort of a paddle off. I'm going to push off with my left foot that's not clipped in. Realese the brake and see how my foot that's clipped in is up and forward so that I get a good power coming off. So I just go, try to get in and I'm off and back up the hill. So that's how you start on an incline.
