"We're just going to talk about a few of the basic differences between your two major players. Your Shamano and your Shram when it comes to shifting and de-railers. How you use them and the functional differences and what you might notice on the trail. A really big difference is the design of the de-railer. Shamano has a new de-railer coming out that's more like a Shram de-railer, in that it doesn't have this b-tension adjuster. It only rotates inward without changing that angle. And that keeps it from slapping so much. The other big difference, which Shamano is rapidly catching up with, is they have cable routing, that is more from the front instead of from the rear. That's a shorter run of housing that's less likely to get kinked and messed up. That's a really big difference. The thing that's most notable these days on the trail riding a Shram shifter or de-railer versus a Shamano one, is the way that you shift with your forefinger versus your thumb. Although once again, Shamano is really battling to catch up with Shram and has added a new thumb releasable downshifter here to there new 2007"
