Nine Ball Pool Rules & Tips

"Hi, this is Mike Lopez with Expert Village. And now we are going to discuss the rules of nine ball. Nine ball is played with the one through the nine. Now you may have seen another variation of nine ball played on television, which is seven ball which is played for the one to the seven just like nine ball. Or speed seven ball which is actually a timed event where a player shoots a rack of seven ball as fast as they can. Now, in nine ball the balls are pocketed in number order; sequential order from one to nine. This mean that must go from the one ball to the two ball unless of course you hit the object ball. The object ball is the lowest numbered ball on the table. Now if you hit the object ball and another ball goes in, no matter what ball it is, you get to continue shooting at the one until you pocket the one or pocket another object ball and so on and so forth. This of course meaning that player can shoot a eight trick shots in a roll and still have not pocketed the one yet. Now breaking a nine ball is governed by its own set of rules. You must break from the kitchen, which is designated by the two dots on the breaking end of the table. You may not have the q-ball above this two dot level and break the ball. That is an automatic foul and re-rack. Now, since the balls must be pocketed in a numbered order, you must make sure that you hit the one ball first in the rack. Now that you have broken your rack, if you did make a ball, as in this instance the two ball went in the corner pocket, then you get to continue to shoot. Once again the first ball you want to pocket is the one ball which is sitting over by the q-ball."
