"This is Mike Lopez with Expert Village and now we're going to go over how to play a safety. Safety is put in place usually a 9 ball. We're going to go over some safety, the 9 ball safety is cause you have to hit the 9 ball. The reason why you use a safety is to try to prevent your opponent from hitting the one ball. So in essence of hitting a scratch you have the ball in hand, and what you want to do is you want to take the cue ball and set it on the opposite side of the pool table with all the other balls in the way so your opponent cannot hit the one ball. So all you're going to do is you're going to hit the one and your cue ball is going to come up this rail and send it down here towards the 9. "
