"If you have a set of barriers there at the bottom of a long hill that you have to run up or you know, just a long forced run section, because it's sandy or muddy, or something like that, anticipate what gear you're going to need to be in to accelerate before you get off your bike. Because obviously trying to shift after you get back on your bike is going to waste speed. Now if your shifting while your decelerating, you know, you're not wasting any energy. The other thing to remember, is if it's a you know, a steep run up and flans out right at the top, you probably don't just want to grab, you don't, you probably don't want to just jump right back on your bike right on the top. You want to accelerate over the top running or whatever and then remount. So, normally what I do, is because I'm not very strong these days, I'm usually riding around in my big chain ring and one of the easier gears. And you know, depending on how flat it is, and how fast I'm gong to be going, you know I'll shift down one or two gears to have that good gear to accelerate in before I get off my bike. And then when I get off my bike I'm also going to try to make sure that you know, if I get off with my left foot, you know, it's down all the way, but as I, as I get off, that usually kicks, kicks my pedal back so it's at a good angle to find when I jump back on my bike."
