How to Choose a Helmet for Downhill Mountain Biking

"MICKEY DENONCOURT: In my opinion the best type of helmet to choose when you are, you know, riding downhill is a full face motorcycle style helmet, preferably one that is actually approved, like DOT approved, like motorcycle approved. It's not going to be as light as a bicycle designed helmet, it's not going to be as, you know, it's not going to ventilate as well, but it's going to be designed to work a lot better with the type of impacts you're going to get when you're riding downhill. When you're riding downhill, and you're riding a lot faster, into a lot of rough terrain, then what bike stuff is designed for. Today, we are going to mount riding, I'm going to be wearing the more traditional, open face mountain bike helmet, only because like I need to be able to talk to the camera and stuff like that. Otherwise, if I was out here, riding, l'd totally be wearing motorcycle style helmet, and probably, a set of goggles too to keep the junk out of my eyes and stuff like that. But you know, there are bike specific, full face helmets, which are, they're better than just wearing an XC helmet, you know, without a chin guard, and depending on, how mild your trails are, if you are doing a lot pedalling, there might be a better option. They have more holes in them, they are better ventilated, and stuff like that. But you know, if you are riding lifts, or you're getting shell to the top, just go ahead and buy a nice motor cross full face helmet and you know, potentially save yourself, lot of pain down the road."
