"It's important to look far ahead when you're riding a steep section. Just like it's important to look far ahead any time you're riding above, like, walking pace. And when you're riding in a steep section, you're pretty much are riding walking pace. The distance the camera is form me right now, is about how far you should be looking ahead. I'm looking to the end of the section that I'm looking down into. So, you know, my chin's up, I'm looking ahead. I see everything in front of me and you know, I'm already precessing the ride through it. As I ride through this section of trail here, I'll be looking, you know, at the next obstacle as I'm on the obstacle I'm currently on and as I approach it. So, you know, a good idea is, the closest you should ever be looking is ten, fifteen feet ahead of you. The faster you go, the further ahead you need to be looking. With steep stuff, you just need to commit to it. So, just look at the end of the section, don't worry about the stuff in the section where you can't control it. So, I'm going to ride this section and you're going to see how I'm going to ride it, instead of riding it how I normally would, looking far ahead. I'm going to focus really specifically on what's right in front of my wheel, and you'll see what happens. As I go to ride into this, I mean it's hard to even force myself to do it, I don't know what's ahead of me. So I'm riding all steep through here, all slowly, skidding my brakes, having trouble turning and then when I get to this, you know, by the time I get to this section right here where I have to really commit, I'm afraid. You know, I've been afraid the whole way down, because I'm looking exactly where I'm going and this has caught me by surprise. A little drop off here where I need some speed. This rock is sloping and covered in lichen, I don't want to break here. So instead, I'm just going to get off my bike. That's why you need to, ya know, look ahead. You need to be prepared for whats coming next."
