"A tire like this, 2.5 inches wide, its got more knobs which are more in contact with the ground, so its going to roll faster. And then because of the way that the knobs are shaped it's going to change direction a little bit better too. And then for a medium soft to hard sort of track that has mud on it but some rocks and maybe some dust, a tire like this, that's more open so it sheds better but has some taller knobs. You can see those knobs are almost like little tombstones that come up, is going to work really well. And tires like this roll fairly quickly and they work well in most conditions. It's really scary on rocks and stuff like that. So you know you have to be willing to make these compromises. So select the appropriate tire for the application whether it?s riding a downhill bike or you know, riding XE. Look what other riders near you, ask at your bike shop, ask on your group rides, see what tires people have success with around where you are and then take it from there. And you know you don't have to take it to this complete level of mania but you can if you want to and there's worst habits so..."
