" Hi! I'm Mike Elder, the General Manager and head coach of the the Miami Fencing Club; that's www.miamifencingclub.com. We meet in South Miami weekday evenings and Miami Day College in Kendall on weekends on Saturday afternoon. Tonight myself and my partner Harry are going to show you something about the sport of competitive fencing. Fencing makes a great sport for anybody from age 8 to 80. It provides an excellent low impact aerobic workout and it is a sport you can play all your life. Right n ow we are going to show you some of the defense in fencing. These kinds of weapons are called foils. In order to score I have to hit Harry like this with a point. I can't hit him on the edge of the blade. He is going to defend himself. The defensive action is called a parry. Immediately after the parry, he is going to counter attack. Counter attacks are called the riposte. If you can see it happen, it is very fast. "
