"We're going to talk today about six traditional martial arts weapons. Now we're going to talk about the history of the nunchuck. The nunchuck again was used as a farm tool. After they would cut up the rice, and they would place it in a bundle, they would beat the rice, knocking the heads off into a sifter. The sifter then would sift the rice out from the husk and they would be able to use it. So pretty much it was just used to beat, they would also use it for beating wheat, to beat the heads off the wheat. Eventually of course from the circular motion of it, they learned to flip it around and do all sorts of other techniques for it. It was used as way of distracting an opponent. You'd have no idea where it was going to go next. If you were to switch hands, you would not know where the strike was coming from next."
