"MICHAEL LEWIS: Michael Lewis here with Christian Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. We're here to talk today about executing an outboard wristlock. Now we know that not everybody is going to grab you from your wrist, there's also collar grabs and shoulder grabs. Dean is going to grab me on my shoulder and, of course, what I'm going to do and always keep in mind that we are doing these techniques straightforward. We're not adding in the loosening up techniques. But if you want to visualize it you can visualize throwing a punch. But, also, make sure always at the same time that you're grabbing the person's hand, you're getting in control whether it's a knee strike, whether it's a punch or an elbow. And when you do you just rotate, you grab with your left hand. Again, fingers prying against the thumb, fingers on the palm, your thumb is on the back of his hand and you pry out to be able to get the technique. Now, also, just a precaution you can get a wristlock with one hand but it's always best to be able to use both hands for more control, makes for an effective technique. If he goes for a collar grab, here what I'm going to do is he has his fingers wrapped up into my uniform so it makes a little bit more difficult for me to be able to pry across. So this is where it gets a little bit messy. I grab, I apply a loosening up technique and then I begin to twist. He may take my gi with me but if I can pry out of it then I'll have it. If he keeps my uniform and I'm still able to get it, that's okay. Again, I have my fingers in the palm, applying the pressure towards the shoulder and then over. And that is your outboard wristlock from a collar or shoulder grab."
