"MICHAEL LEWIS: Michael Lewis with Yeshua Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. We are talking today about inboard wrist locks, how to apply them, and how to use them for your self defense. Now, as a precaution, just in case you do not get this inboard wrist lock, you always want to have a technique that you can follow up with. It is like I got sort of a sloppy grip on his wrist so I am not able to apply a proper inboard wrist lock, so I always have an arm bar here to work with. I can take and apply with, and turning my body into the back, applying with my elbow going across his, and just apply pressure down. Again, it sort of leans his body over which again allows me to be able to throw him or execute a different type of technique. As I am reaching up, palm facing away, I pry his hand off. Once I pry his hand off, if I want to, I can take left leg; it is very important, your footwork is very important. If I stay in here back and try to apply, I am not going to have the same amount of pressure on his arm, so I step into the technique and be able to apply against the elbow. Now, when applying the arm bar, you want to apply it on the elbow or approximately an inch above, which is a little bit better point for getting the pressure on his elbow. If you apply it down here, above the elbow, it is definitely not going to be effective, so you do have to be aware of where you are applying that pressure along his elbow to perform a standing arm bar. That's how you are going to take your transition from your inboard wrist lock into a standing arm bar."
