"MICHAEL LEWIS: Michael Lewis with Yeshua Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. We are talking today about inboard wrist locks, how to apply them, and how to use them for your self defense. Now we are going to talk about how to grab from a shoulder, or how to apply the inboard wrist lock from a shoulder grab, from a collar grab. Not everybody is going to grab you around the wrist, so if he grabs me here on the shoulder, what I can do, number one, is a loosening-up technique, get him distracted, get him focused on another area, whether it is him trying to block the punch or whether him actually receiving the punch. The second that I gain control over the hand over here, I can actually twist my body into the wrist lock. So to break that down a little bit more, I have here I gain control, I take my right hand, place my hand on top, put my fingers in around the pinkie side of his hand, pry off his hand. About the same time, to help with this technique, I am twisting my body over. Again, I take my free hand, apply pressure in towards the shoulder and out towards the pinkie, and causes him to tap. Now, from a collar grab, it is pretty much the same thing, and so his hand is not turned flat over like it is on the shoulder so I have to do a little bit of extra work here. I do have a strike here at the elbow that will possibly hyperextend his arm, or at least shock him, in order for him to loosen up his arm, so I do as I strike him I will roll over all the way around. I have to flip this hand over into the pinkie side of his hand and then pry it off. When I do pry, I can again just twist my body over into the technique; that pries his hand off. Now from that pry, once I get to this pry point here, you take your loose hand, again fingers to the thumb, thumb on the back, push towards the shoulder and out until he taps. That is how to apply your inboard wrist lock from a shoulder grab and from a collar grab."
