"MICHAEL LEWIS: Michael Lewis with the Yeshua Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. We are talking today about inboard wrist locks, how to apply them, and how to use them for your self defense. In order to make your jujutsu very effective whether a wrist lock, arm bar, or anything, you need to use loosening-up techniques. It is very rare that somebody is just going to allow you, if they are grabbing your wrist, they are just going to allow you to flip over into a wrist lock technique. You are going to have some resistance there. So, what you are going to do is you are going to create some type of distraction or loosening-up technique. You are going to throw an elbow strike, a punch, or a groin strike. Any time that you are beginning to throw a strike, if you are able to gain control of that hand, like for instance I am throwing a knee strike and not using this hand, I will take and grab control of this hand as I am throwing a knee strike. If he were to throw a hook punch in with that, I am ready to block it but I still got my knee strike in. I am always aware of that. So I throw my loosening-up technique he sought from me, whether I punch him, whether I strike him, or whether I just cause a distraction, and then flip him over into my technique. Keep in mind in jujutsu, when you are practicing, the techniques will come out very clean, but when you are actually get into grappling or a real-life situation, they are not going to come out that clean, so that's the importance of loosening-up techniques so that you have something to fall back on but you also have something to make your jujutsu way more effective."
