"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village, and we are here today to cover the sai. Ok, now here is a way that you would defend yourself against the choke using the sai. If he is choking me, and he is actually putting in a lot of pressure across my neck. What will happen is that I can take the hooks of the sai and actually begin to press them into the inside of his arm and then move them out. From there, it would actually draw his body in closer, as you see his head comes in closer. Also to help move his head in closer, I throw in a knee strike and that way again it will cause his body to turn further over. So when I throw that strike his body moves back and that is the perfect opportunity now for me to shoot out using the ball end of the weapon to shoot out towards his neck. So again, just as a review. He chokes. I come in and I will hook and throw in a knee strike, bringing his body in closer and then I can step back throwing the strike in. If he actually tries to choke, I can also do another technique where I hook in downward and upward with the other hand. So from here I am pushing down and up and it actually spins his hands off and from here I can follow up with the strike. So again, he comes through, if I wanted to I could take this left hand and actually flip it over so I can use the hook end of the weapon. I hook down and up to be able to push it off, then follow through with the strike. Those are two very simple ways of defending yourself against the choke using the sai."
