"Michael Lewis with Yeshua Ryu Martial Marts on behalf of Expert Village. We are here today to cover the Sai. Now we are going to show you a block against the bo strike. It just gives you an example of how these weapons were used against each other back when they used primarily as farm tools and they began to make their shift from farm tools to weapons. Again, like I said, the Sais are not very practical but it is still important to understand how they were used. So, he throws a down strike, and of course because it is metal I am able to block it and even though he has a longer weapon, I still do not have to worry about it because this is metal and he is unable to execute it. A very excellent block with this without risking injury to my arm. From here, I can hook into his arm and actually sort of support his bo staff on to my shoulder and actually hook down to bring his arm down off of the bo. Or, if I flip my weapon around in to the second position, I can actually hook his bo staff downward with the right hand and actually hook up with the other hand and try to get out the other direction. Keep in mind that when you are trying to disarm somebody from a bo staff you are going to have to work your Sais in opposing directions. So whether you are moving this down and this one up or visa versa. So again, he throws a down strike here, I am going to support it across my arm and just hook immediately down. A very very quick technique. As you hook down you can actually follow through with a strike. And you can slide this hand immediately off, now that you have disarmed, and throw a strike to the neck. The other way again to review, he throws the same down strike. I take this weapon, in the left hand, this sai in the left and hook down and up. From here I take his hand off and I am able again to follow up with a strike. There are the two ways to show you how the sais was use against the bo staff, traditionally."
